Tell Someone About Your 5AM Plan. It Changes the Commitment.

Chris — Founder of 5am Network

A 5AM plan that nobody else knows is easy to edit.

You write it down. You mean it. Then 11PM arrives with a reasonable excuse, and the only person you have to persuade is yourself. That conversation is short. You usually win.

Tell someone. Not as a performance. As a way of making the plan real enough that it cannot vanish without a word.

Privacy makes quitting too cheap

There is nothing wrong with starting quietly. Some people need a private week before they say anything.

The risk is staying private forever. A private plan has no friction. You can skip Tuesday and still feel like someone who “is trying 5AM.” The identity survives. The mornings do not.

When a partner, a friend, or a room already expects you at that hour, skipping still happens. Life happens. The difference is that skip now has a shape. You notice it. Sometimes they notice it. That is not shame. It is a small, healthy push.

The point is not to be policed

This is not about finding someone to scold you.

It is about not being the only witness. A commitment changes when it is no longer a secret you keep with a notes app.

Join a room. Text one person. Say, “I am keeping 5AM this month.” Then go to bed.

If you want that kind of company, 5am Network is built for it. Different work. Same morning. Nobody needs you to match their project. They only need you to keep showing up.

Start with one sentence

You do not need a manifesto.

Tonight, tell one person the plan. Tomorrow, join the meeting if you can. Keep it that small on purpose.

The plan gets heavier in a good way. Harder to drop. Easier to keep.

5am Network is an independent community and is not officially affiliated with Robin Sharma or The 5AM Club.
