Finished The 5AM Club? Start Tomorrow Morning.

Chris — Founder of 5am Network

Inspiration is cheap at 11pm. You finish a book, or a summary of a book, and you can see the life: 4:00 alarm, victory hour, a person who finally became someone.

Then Tuesday happens.

I started 5am Network because that gap — between the feeling and the calendar — is where most people lose the morning. Not because they are weak. Because a private 5am is easy to negotiate with, and a public 5:30 Hong Kong time (HKT, UTC+8) is not.

5am Network is an independent community and is not officially affiliated with Robin Sharma or The 5AM Club. If the book brought you here, welcome. The room is our own practice.

Getting started is smaller than the book

You do not need a perfect hour. You need a first entry.

In this community, Hong Kong time: the room opens at 5:00 am, starts at 5:30, join by 5:45, and ends at 8:15. That sounds strict. It is also a gift: you are not designing a routine from scratch at 4:47. You are either in the room or you are not.

If you are not in Hong Kong, do not convert “5am” into your local 5am and then feel behind. The clock is Hong Kong time on purpose. Add the meetup to your calendar in Asia/Hong_Kong, then look at what that is for you.

Prepare the night before

The morning is usually lost the night before.

  • Put the clothes, water, and laptop where your half-asleep hands will find them.
  • Write one sentence: tomorrow I will work on X for 30 minutes. Not five goals. One.
  • Decide whether you are joining the 05:00 settle-in or walking in closer to 05:30. Both are allowed. Sleeping through 05:30 is not a moral failure. It is tomorrow’s problem.

I still do this badly some weeks. The sentence on paper is the difference between “I’ll see how I feel” and actually opening the laptop.

A realistic first week

Do not promise yourself 2.5 hours on day one.

  • Days 1–2: Join before 05:30. Stay 30 minutes. That is a qualifying morning here. Camera on if you can bear it. Microphone off.
  • Days 3–4: Stay through the first Building & Learning block after 05:35. Notice that the room does not need you to perform.
  • Days 5–7: Stay for one sharing checkpoint. You may type in chat instead of speaking. Then keep working.

If you miss a day, do not write a manifesto. Come back the next morning before 05:30.

Why people quit

They quit because they treated 5am as a personality, then met a late dinner. They quit because they were alone, so snooze had no witnesses. They quit because they tried to copy someone else’s 20/20/20 hour instead of protecting time for the work they actually care about.

A book can explain a formula. It cannot sit in a grid of faces at 05:32 while you write a bad first paragraph.

Accountability that is not a group chat

Familiar faces matter more than slogans. You do not need a coach in your DMs. You need to recognise the same two people on Thursday who were there on Monday.

That is the product: protected time, then relationships built through consistency.

If you want to try it rather than outline it, join a morning at 5am Network. Set a nickname. Show up once. The inspiration can wait at the door. For the clock, read how the room works. For what comes after 20/20/20, see this article.
